The Hydromechanical Interplay in the Simplified Three-Dimensional Limit Equilibrium Analyses of Unsaturated Slope Stability

This paper presents a three-dimensional slope stability limit equilibrium solution for translational planar failure modes. The proposed uses Bishop’s average skeleton stress combined with the Mohr–Coulomb criterion to describe soil strength evolution under unsaturated conditions while its formulation ensures natural and smooth transition from saturated regime vice versa. analytical is evaluated by comparing predictions results of Ruedlingen experiment. comparison suggests that, despite relative simplicity, can capture experimentally observed behaviour well highlights importance considering lateral resistance together realistic interplay between mechanical parameters (cohesion) hydraulic (pore water pressure) conditions.
